Deposition of metallic and ceramic coatings on steels by Chemical Vapor Deposition in Fluidized Bed Reactors at Atmospheric Pressure (AP/FBR-CVD) has been investigated. The capability of Al coatings deposited by AP/FBR-CVD to protect structural materials to avoid their corrosion in contact with molten Pb-Bi has been investigated. Advanced ceramic coatings based in titanium nitride (TiN) and aluminium and titanium nitride (Ti-Al-N) have been deposited by AP/FBR-CVD with simultaneous nitridation of specimens in one-step, as an alternative to duplex processes developed with vacuum equipments. Nitrides have been deposited from reaction of TiCl4 or AlCl3 precursors with NH3 or N2 at temperatures between 600 and 950 ºC. A decrease in crystal average size of TiN by Al incorporation in Ti-Al-N coatings has been detected. On the other hand, chromium and aluminium nitride coatings ((Cr,Al)N) have been deposited by Physical Vapor Deposition processes (PVD) and oxidation kinetics of coatings in air at high temperatures have been investigated. It has been detected that the increase of the Al content in the coatings improves the resistance of the coatings to oxidation at high temperatures.
